Whenever we dance the 5Rhythms as a dynamic movement practice, we not only learn to listen to our body and what is happening inside, we also harness our natural gift to sense what is going on around us while adapting to the ever changing physical and social environment.
Again and again, we move through a "Wave"; a dance cycle consisting of five stages or ‘rhythms’. Within each wave we learn how and when to be receptive (Flowing), when to be clear about who we are and the boundaries we hold (Staccato), when it’s time to let go of control and trust the unpredictability of creativity (Chaos)…and finally...there comes a moment when we can release any effort and simply enjoy the dance. This happens in Lyrical, the rhythm of maturity, lightness, freedom from inner judgement… the rhythm of flying!
It is important to notice and appreciate such moments in life as we grow our wings through study, work and a myriad of life experiences. We don’t want to miss the chance to open our wings and let their strength carry us in the direction of our hopes, wishes and dreams.
Join us in this dance experience as we remind each other of this wonderful energy, get to know it better, and allow ourselves to be carried away by our dance. Let’s spread our wings and fly!
About Alex:
The liberating power of dance seems to flow naturally out of Alex and spread to those who come to his classes.
In addition to being a world traveling conscious dance facilitator, Alex is a University instructor and an experienced corporate training facilitator. He has trained as a 5Rhythms teacher directly with Gabrielle Roth, is a certified Open Floor teacher and has been studying with Anna Halprin.
Alex offers a method of dance meditation that is highly accessible, simple and at the same time amazingly deep and potentially transformational. He teaches regularly in London, Cambridge, Dubai, Moscow, St Petersburg, and Kiev. He founded freedomDANCE, a school of dance meditation and conscious movement with 23 teachers and trainees working in over 30 different cities.
Alex considers dance to be his way to freedom: "Each of our classes is an opportunity to have a taste of freedom. What kind of freedom? Freedom to breathe and move. Freedom to notice and accept what is happening inside ourselves and around us. Freedom to open up to something bigger, something that transcends our everyday ideas and calculations. Freedom to be yourself and share yourself with others…"
